Mental Health and Social Exclusion Report front cover

Unfortunately the need for such organisations as the Windmill Club & Drop-in Centre is increasing. Adults with mental health problems are one of the most excluded groups in society and, contrary to popular belief, public attitudes have become increasingly intolerant. The "Mental Health and Social Exclusion Report" published by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in June 2004 states that in 1993 92 per cent of people agreed that "we need to adopt a far more tolerant attitude towards people with mental illness in our society". In 2004 this had dropped to 83 per cent.

This increasing intolerance lays a heavier burden upon all concerned to help the socially disadvantaged to fight prejudice and help them regain the confidence they so badly need.
